We ate in Restaurant Akershus and we absolutely loved it! By far, our very best meal all week. The buffet was excellent. It had at least 6 different types of herring, all sorts of cold meats and cheeses, smoked salmon and gravalax, salads, shrimp, there was so much variety. The bread was unbelievably delicious. There is a lot of food for the money, and it is well worth it. The herrings and gravalax (since this is what we mainly came for) were excellent and fresh. The food was constantly replenished. Along with the buffet, you can order as many hot dishes as you choose, all included in the same price. We were so stuffed from the buffet we only had room to try the Grilled Atlantic Salmon, which was great, and the Kjettkaker (ground beef/pork with beets, gherkins & shallots) which was also excellent. We also got mashed rutabaga which we love and was also great. Our waitress was very friendly, going out of her way to see if she could get the bread recipe that we so loved. We loved this meal, and highly recommend this restaurant. At $19.99 a head for the buffet, it is worth every single penny. (Shayna Friedman, April 2005)

We visited Akershus for lunch and were rather disappointed. Service was slow--it wasn't a busy time, in fact it was at the end of the lunch period--and not up to usual Disney standards. Our service staff wasn't very friendly and we felt like we were "begging" if we wanted more of the hot food. The quality of the hot food was very good but the cold buffet items were mediocre. I have no reason to go again, too many other places that know what good service does to enhance a meal. (Liz, January 2005)

My family loves the Akershus and we have for years. Of course there have been some changes over the years but two recent ones are really disappointing. First is the hot buffet. The single serving is great but we enjoyed the option of trying small samples of all the offerings. I don't feel I can justify a second order and not waste the food. Second is the missing Viking ship chocolate dessert. This was the single dessert my daughter looked forward to every visit. It was the perfect theme dessert for Norway and delicious. It is not well replaced by the mini slice of chocolate mousse cake. (Cris, October 2004)

We chose Akershus because of its rave reviews and menu. My children love grilled salmon as well as other items on the menu. My husband has traveled throughout Norway and enjoyed the culture and food. We had priority seating for 7:00 and were seated on time. There was a mix up with the hostess not telling our waitress we were her table, so we went without a drink for 25 minutes and, after telling someone, we waited another 10 minutes for the water. The hostess and waitress apologized and explained, and asked if we wanted to talk to the manager, we didn't think that necessary until 10 minutes later when our order had not yet been taken. When the manager was informed the situation was more than remedied. She personally visited our table, waited on us and gave our orders priority. They were rushed to our table and she gave us interesting details about each dish. We ordered several dishes of grilled salmon, and venison stew. Both were fantastic! My 4 yr. old son ate 3 salmon fillets and my daughter loved the venison stew, as did I. When our waitress brought out a dessert tray to choose from, we decided to buy the whole tray for $10 and each of the children had a troll sugar cookie which they could decorate with a paintbrush and palette of gel frostings. It was fun to try each dessert, they were small portions so we each tried a little to determine our favorite. We had a wonderful experience, the Akershus cast members more than repaired a potentially disasterous dinner to make it the most wonderful meal during our stay! After we ate our desserts, our waitress informed us that dessert was on the house. I find it beneficial when reading reviews to see how an establishment handles a problem. We believe that our situation was a RARE mixup, the hostess forgot to tell our waitress we were "her table." I highly recommend Akershus! PS. we left just in time to catch a spot to watch Illuminaitons. It was a night of Disney Magic! Also worth mentioning the "hot" menu is served in somewhat small portions on each big white plate. It is "all you can eat" so one might feel like a bit of a piggy ordering seconds and thirds! This is probably a good method for keeping wasted food to a minimum. We are so accustomed to buying large adult entrees and sharing with our children that we didn't order enough for the first round. (Melissa Kegley, October 2004)

If you are considering lunch or dinner at Restaurant Akershus... Don't bother! For what used to be a delicious buffet of hot and cold items, the restaurant has turned into a farcical 'course by course, one by one' place. Although salad and pickles still remain buffet style, the hot dishes are now a la carte, and extremely small. The idea is that you can still order as many as you want, but that's just silly and a waste of time. I tried the Pasta Akershus, which consists of fettuccine, wild mushrooms and cheese. Okay, it was pleasant tasting, but nothing beyond the taste of a microwave meal that is a tenth of the price and much larger! If you want to eat at Epcot, go to the Rose & Crown, or just pick up some delicious desserts from around World Showcase. (Gemma, September 2004)

This has always been one of our favorite restaurants. We were last there on August 15, 2004. This used to be an all buffet dinner/lunch, but they have modified it to buffet for the cold items, herring, cheese, salads, cold cuts, etc., but the hot items must be ordered individually. What a disapointment! It was so much better when you could get your entire meal from the buffet. And the desserts - skip buying the teeny, tiny deserts for $1.99 at the restaurant. They used to be a normal human portion, but someone decided to shrink them. Go to the bakery and get the same dessert at twice the size for $2.29. The food is good, but I'm not sure we would go back now that the hot items are not included in the buffet. (Carol, August 2004)
