***** We had lunch at the Flame Tree BBQ in Animal Kingdom on April 5 2005. We both ordered the rack of ribs. The ribs were not the best we have never had, nor were they the worst. The corn on the cob that came with the ribs was fresh corn, very nice, the baked beans tasted like they were from a can. There is a lovely outdoor covered seating area overlooking the water, and if you eat at an off time, as we did, we had the entire area to ourselves, as most people seemed to pick the area closest to the restaurant to eat. It is a bit of walk to get to this dining area, but well worth it for the view. Our lunch came to around $17.00 and we felt it was worth it for the money. (Shayna Friedman, April 2005) ***** We took advantage of the "Meal Deal" package ($5.99 for kids, $11.99 for adults) that allows you purchase a Meal with a Beverage; then get an Ice Cream or Popcorn PLUS a Beverage Later. I'd heard this place (DAK) was hot. They're right. It might not be a zoo (Nahtahzu!) -- but it's HOT. This was our first venture to DAK, so we had NO CLUE what we were doing, or where we were going. All we knew, is that we were HOT and HUNGRY (not a good combination). We settled in on the Flame Tree BBQ, and used the Meal Deal vouchers for our lunches. The adults each had the RIB platter; the child had the Mini Dogs. We sat overlooking the construction of the Mt. Everest Expedition, and were visited by Goofy, Minnie and a band from South America. The breeze from the lagoon, and the cool beverages (Iced Tea, of course!) helped to cool us down. The food was OK. From what I recall, it was 1/2 rack of ribs (about 6-7 bones); Corn on the Cob; Beans -- the "usual" BBQ Platter meal. It would have cost about $8 PLUS another $2+ for the drinks -- so the coupons were a deal for us. Food - 2 Stars; Service - 2 Stars (it was counter/fast food ok!); Price - 3 Stars (only because of the Meal Deal); Overall 2+ Stars. Next time, I think we'd either go to the Tusker House; Rainforest Cafe or even the Restrantasaurus (because they are all indoors and AIR CONDITIONED). (Stewart J. Dimon, June 2004) ***** Every time I visit Walt Disney World(which is every 2 or 3 months) I make it a must to stop by Flame Tree Barbeque. The ribs at Flame Tree are by far the best I've ever had in my life(even though they are counter service). My sister and I look forward to Flame Tree ribs from the minute we leave until the next time we're at Disney World. Their ribs are cooked with a "rib rub" unlike the usual barbeque sauces that are so often painted onto ribs. The atmosphere and the seating at Flame Tree is also very beautiful and relaxing. You can take your delicious pork sandwich, tasty barbeque chicken, or mouth-watering ribs down by the river to eat or sit next to the fountain under the shade of tropical trees. And for all of you sports fans, keep your eyes open for celebrities while eating at Flame Tree. One day last summer while my family and I were at Animal Kingdom, a cast member told us that Barry Bonds had been seen at Flame Tree ordering ribs. Flame Tree's ribs are also one of Barry's "must sees" when visiting Walt Disney World. (Kristen Jones, May 2004) ***** Since it's only "open seasonally," I hadn't had the opportunity to try Flame Tree before, even though I'd heard lots of positive things about it. One rainy day in July, a group of us stopped by. Not being fond of smoky barbecued meats, I opted for the chicken salad sandwich -- loaded with chunks of mildly spicy chicken breast on a fresh roll, the sandwich was served with a mini-cob of corn and a small portion of bbq beans, all for $6.79. Members of my group raved about the Flame Tree's tasty ribs and bbq chicken, but Flame Tree also offers other sandwiches (smoked pork, smoked chicken) and light options (fruit plate, salad with chicken), plus peanut butter & jelly or hot dogs and beans for the small-fry. Although it's truly counter service with not many tables in the immediate area, there was plenty of outdoor seating a few steps away underneath a shelter in the midst of much greenery. All in all, Flame Tree Barbecue offers a great alternative for those tired of taking the burgers and pizza route to reasonably priced eating. (Debra Martin Koma, July 2002)
