Special Announcement

Dog owners: Beginning November 15, dog owners can bring their furry friends to meet St. Nick at Downtown Disney throughout the holiday season. Leashed pooches are welcome to pose for pictures at Santa's Christmas Chalet located near World of Disney through Dec. 24. You can take your own photos or use Disney's PhotoPass service. Hours are 5 to 10 p.m. Nov. 15-27 and noon to 10 p.m. Nov. 28-Dec. 24. A doggie "comfort" area will be in the grassy section behind Once Upon a Toy. For questions, call 407-828-3150.

What is PhotoPass?

It used to be Disney's photographers would take pictures of you in a park and give you a slip of paper to claim the photos at the end of the day. If you forgot or if you couldn't get the picture(s) then, you were out of luck. But now, that's all changed... and for the better! With the advantages of digital photography, Disney created the only system of this kind: the photographers still take pictures of your vacation, but now you can claim that any time, including online for 30 days after your trip is over. From there you can view your photos, order prints, and create photo keepsakes. Many guests say that because PhotoPass meant avoiding the long lines to pick up their pictures, they had more photos taken.

How does PhotoPass Work at the Parks?

As Disney likes to put it: Smile! View. Shop.

Disney's PhotoPass card, front and backSmile!: Look for the Disney photographers throughout Walt Disney World's four Theme Parks and the Water Parks, Disneyland's two parks, and New York City's World of Disney. The first photographer will give you a plastic Disney's PhotoPass card with an ID number on the back. Hang onto that card and use it for the duration of your trip. In fact, you can hang on to it and use it on every trip you take! Each time you see one of the roving photographers and want a photo taken, just go up and hand them your card - they'll get you situated, snap the pose, scan your card and off you go - and you can do this as often as you like. Don't worry if you end up with more than one card, as your Christmas Party PhotoPassonline PhotoPass account will allow multiple cards to be entered! A word of caution - when you first receive your card, be sure to write down your ID number or take a clear digital photo of it. Cards can get lost or when photographers are busy or guests get impatient, people get the wrong card back. If you have your number, you have your photos! (People also write their family name on the back, like in the example on the left, or put an address label on the card, so they make sure to get the right card back. But remember: if you have your number, you can still get your pictures. And you can always use multiple cards.)

If you attend one of the parties, such as Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party, you'll get a card for that event. This keeps those photos separate, since Disney gives you a 40% discount on ALL of your photos for the party! The card will tell you about the discount and how to get it. Just like with your regular PhotoPass cards, make sure you write down the number so you have it if the card gets lost.

Captain Hook added in Special PoseBy the way, the photographers will ask you to some fun poses. For example, the photographer will have you cup your hands or have you put them in the air like you're lifting something. When you view your photos, you'll see they became "magical photos" with Tinkerbell or Figment or Simba now added to your pose. A number of characters can appear like this one with Captain Hook outside Pirates of the Caribbean!

Theme Park Photo Pass MachineView: You can view in two different ways. While in the parks, you can either go to a Photo Center (like the station pictured on the right). When you return home, go to http://www.disneyphotopass.com/, register for free, and enter the I.D. number on your card. Disney will break down your photos in different views: All of your photos, and then one category for each park. The number of photos that you have for each category is listed right next to its name. Remember, you can upload your own trip photos to take advantage of the PhotoPass sytem. Go to the View All & Order tab at the top of the page, and select My Uploaded Photos from the dropdown list. Now you can edit all your photos, add borders and effects, and share them with your friends and family. Disney also provides photos they've taken of the characters and the parks, as well a holiday section and Adventures by Disney. Select Disney's Photo Gallery from the dropdown list under the View All & Order tab or view them underneath your own PhotoPass photos, categorized by location and holidays.

PhotoPass photo home

Shop: With your PhotoPass photos and the ones you've taken now online, you can create prints, customized photobooks, t-shirts, mugs greeting cards, and more. For the best value on prints, get your PhotoPass photos on Disney's PhotoCD. For more on products, see below.

Where are the Photographers?

Standard PhotoPass Photographer CostumeCostumes - There is a standard costume for the PhotoPass Cast Members (no matter what park they are in) like the one pictured on the left: blue shorts or pants, white shirt, khaki photographer's vest. Sometimes they have a white or tan hat on.

But their clothing can also be themed to the area in which they are stationed. For instance, in Animal Kingdom you might find them wearing a "safari" look. Sometimes they will have a more casual look, such as polo shirts and slacks or khakis, especially if doing a temporary photo spot.

On Main Street in the Magic Kingdom, look for blue and white pinstripe shirts, with white pants and oversized beret-type hats.

Locations & Maps - In general, you'll find the photographers near any park entrances, the main icons and at most Disney character meet and greets. The Disney's PhotoPass website has the only maps that show the PhotoPass photographer locations.: http://www.disneyphotopass.com/aboutdpp_map_gen.aspx

You can view, download, and print these maps along with tips and take them with you on your trip. The photographers can also temporarily be at special locations such as in World Showcase in Epcot taking advantage of the sun setting on the lagoon.

You can also print the following tables. They also list locations, tips, where you can preview your photos, and the characters that will show up in those special poses.(Note: Due to weather and photographer availability, photo locations are subject to change without notice.)

NYC World of Disney also has PhotoPass. The photographers will take great pictures of you meeting the Princesses, Pirates and many more of your favorite Disney Characters. Call (212) 702-0702 to find out today's schedule, and read more information on the NYC World of Disney Meet and Greet web page. When the characters aren't there, Tinkerbell shows up in the special, magical photos poses, and on weekends, Minnie and Pluto ask you to be part of spelling NYC.

Professional Portrait Service - You can have professional portraits taken of you and your family while you're at the Walt Disney World Resort. You'll have the beautiful resorts as your backdrop as they take dozens of photos. You need to make a reservation, so for more information or to schedule a portrait session, call 407-934-4004. Note: Starting September 1, 2008: resort portrait sessions and park Photopass photos are separate products. Portrait photos will not show on your PhotoPass ID, unless you have made your resort reservation before September 1st, 2008; if you have made the reservation, you can get your photos combined under the one ID account. Changes to CD products include:

Pre-order or buy the PhotoCD in the parks: receipts will get you a Portraits reservation for $74.95
Portraits session photos only on CD: $149.95
PhotoCD combining Portraits and parks photos (done at resort locations; PhotoPass enhancements not available): $49.95. This is the fee for combining the photos, not for the CD.

Start capturing the memories early in your stay. Be sure to get your first Disney's PhotoPass photo taken in the first park you visit to mark the start of your vacation.

If your party splits up, each person can have their own card. Remember: it's easy to combine multiple cards into one account online.

The PhotoPass photographers will take multiple poses at each location to ensure that you get a great variety. Let them help position your party and allow them to take the candid moments as well as the more traditional portrait-style shots.

When getting a picture with the park icons ( Epcot - Spaceship Earth, Magic Kingdom - Castle, Disney-MGM Studios - Sorcerer Mickey's Hat and Animal Kingdom - Tree of Life), get lots of pictures. Also make sure to go back and get additional photos after dark. The same pictures of those places after dark make for a completely different photograph. Everything is lit up and beautiful.

Check your PhotoPass pictures at the Photo Center before you leave. PhotoPass Cast Members will gladly show you all of your photos at any point in your trip. Throughout your trip, go to the Photo Centers to check your photos, as this is your chance to see how your photos came out. If there are any problems with the photos (unfortunately it happens sometimes), if they don't meet your satisfaction (some photographers are better than others), or if photos are lost, action can be taken to fix the situation. Cast Members (if time allows) may be able to help search for lost photos; if not, the online center will help recover them. If you don't like how the pictures came out, you don't have to wait until you get home to find out, and you may be able to get a replacement taken before you leave. If you want to be extra safe, you can have the photographer take a picture with your own camera! That way, you know you have the shot, and can upload it on the PhotoPass site to add characters or borders to it.

Pay attention to the dates! Each photo is online for 30 days from when it was taken. Make sure you claim your photos on http://www.disneyphotopass.com/ before the 30 days are up. They will be deleted from the system and can't be restored.

Repeating the most important tip: save your ID number in some way! Write it down or take a digital picture of it. If you have your ID, you have your photos, no matter what happens to the card. Also remember, you can have more than one card! The PhotoPass site allows you to enter multiple IDs.

If you have any PhotoPass tips that you would like to share, please send them by using the feedback form at http://allears.net/forms/feedback.htm and choose the "Submit Tips" option.

Up until now, you haven't paid a nickel. But now you have a variety of photo souvenirs available to you online. Full details for each of the products can be found on http://www.disneyphotopass.com/. Make sure to check out their Special Offers page too!

PhotoCD - Get ALL of your Disney photos in high resolution .jpg files, the ones taken in the park and the additional ones you've made online with borders and additional characters. Many guests report taking advantage of this, having over a hundred pictures taken during vacation, and then tripling that number or more with creative editing. This also gives the customer the license/copyright to the photos so that they may be reproduced elsewhere. That means you can print your photos at home or through any retailer for lower cost than the online prints. It will work the same way for having photo cards printed. This makes the CD a great value. It's normal price is $124.95 (they offer to make copies of it for $19.95), but they give all guest the special offer of pre-ordering the PhotoCD and save 20%, reducing the price to $99.95. While it's called a pre-order, you can do it even after your trip, right up to the 30 day deadline with your photos. To take advantage of this offer, go to the PhotoCD Savings Offer Page. Please note: Your uploaded photos and the pictures from Disney's Photo Gallery can't be put on the CD. (Note: In 2009, the Platinum Dining Plan includes, among other things, a Disney PhotoCD of all your photos.)

Photo Prints - One thing hasn't changed from the old photo days to the new system: the price of prints! The 4x6 size has been added, and you get two for the price of the old 5x7. They have also added photo magnets and luggage tags, and you can choose from a matte or glossy finish to the pictures.

Two 4" x 6" prints of a single picture $12.95
One 5" x 7" print $12.95
One 8" x 10" print $16.95
One 5" x 7" print + four wallet-sized prints
All of the same picture
$19.95
One 5" x 7" print + one magnet
Both of the same picture
$19.95
One 5" x 7" print + one luggage tag
Both of the same picture
$19.95
One 16" x 20" print $29.95

Uploaded photos are available in single 4" x 6" format only for $1.49 each.

PhotoMovie - The PhotoMovie combines your your own digital photos and your Disney's PhotoPass images. Disney then creates a video with music and characters. It has a customized menu/title screen with the title of your choice, your PhotoMovie, and a bonus slideshow video of all the images in your PhotoMovie, accompanied by Disney music. Each movie includes up to 7 themed chapters with as many as 112 of your own photos added in. You can place the chapters in any order you like and can repeat chapters as well. You can choose your chapters from the four Walt Disney World parks as well as the resort hotels, the water parks, and other facilities. Depending on the number of photos you include, the total running time for your DVD will be up to 24 minutes; up to 14 minutes for the PhotoMovie and up to 10 minutes for the slide show. The PhotoMovie DVD label is screen printed with Disney artwork and comes in a standard plastic DVD case with Disney artwork. Disney's PhotoMovie is $74.95; additional within the same order are $19.95 each. The additional movies do not have to be exact copies of the same movie.

PhotoBook is an easily customizable, deluxe hard-cover book that measures 11" x 8.75" with 20 pages (10 double-sided sheets). It lets you make a high quality scrapbook online by choosing from 7 Disney-themed backgrounds and 15 photo layouts for each page. The book comes in two varieties: the Personal PhotoBook which is $49.95 and includes unlimited use of your personal uploaded photos; and the Professional PhotoBook which includes your uploaded photos, plus the option to use your PhotoPass photos or photos from Disney's Photo Gallery. It also has foil stamping personalization on the cover and an upgraded leatherette cover. Its price is $69.95.

PhotoCards let your use your PhotoPass photos to make personalized greeting cards for birthdays, the holidays, and other occasions. You can order them in portrait or landscape layouts as well as folded cards. You purchase them in sets of 20 (including both cards and envelopes) for Standard cards and sets of 10 for the Folded cards. The first Standard set is $29.95, and the first Folded set is $34.95, but the price drops with each set.

PhotoShirt - you can use your PhotoPass photos, your uploaded and edited photos, or the pictures in the Disney Gallery and then add Disney artwork and captions to make your own design for a t-shirt. Adult sizes range from Small to XX-L; Youth sizes are Small to XL.

PhotoMugs are also available as well as Mousepads, plus PhotoPanels, in 5x7 and 8x10, putting a high-gloss, scratch and UV-resistant print permanently bonded to an easel back display panel ready for display, and a Canvas Print in a 16x20 size ready to frame or hang immediately for $99.95.

Frames in Photo StoreThe park locations still have the Disney photo frames if you get your photos at any of the PhotoPass centers, and even the PhotoCD at Epcot's Camera Center, M. Mouse Mercantile in the Grand Floridian Resort, and at Toontown in the Magic Kingdom.
