By all accounts, it looks like EPCOT is the place to be!
As we know, the Food and Wine Festival is on the way, construction walls are finally coming down, and a new stage show will be here, so it’s easy to see a lot is going on in this park. That being said, we’ve got some apprehension when it comes to the reimagining of Test Track, and it’s happening soon, so we should talk about that!
In case you didn’t know, at the 2023 Destination D23 fan convention, Disney shared that Test Track in Epcot is going to be COMPLETELY reimagined. Here’s a look at the concept art photo of the reimagined ride.
At the moment, we don’t know how long the ride will be closed, but it will be going through a significant makeover, so expect it to be closed for a few months at least. Also, we know that the ride will be closing on June 17th for the work to begin!
Based on previous concept art, it looks like this new version will drive through some kind of forest, and the ride vehicles look to be referencing those seen in World of Motion when the ride opened back in 1982.
Since the current ride’s last upgrade was in 2012, this is definitely going to be a welcome update. But this all brings us to our main concern — how long will the ride be closed? As you know, CommuniCore Hall and Plaza are only just about to open on June 10th after yeas of construction.
We’ve had to survive on the dream alone of a fully transformed EPCOT for years, and to start a project so soon after the completion of such an enormous one makes us concerned that Test Track might not re-open for quite some time.
We did, however, just find evidence for the first permit filed for the Test Track reimagining in EPCOT. A “general construction” permit was filed on April 12th for an address that matches the Test Track ride and show building in EPCOT.
The permit’s expiration date is listed as February 28th, 2025, which means the construction shouldn’t last any longer than that, but we’ll have to wait and see.
