6 Bizarre Things We Love About Disney’s Port Orleans Resort

Listen, we know that it can be pretty overwhelming when trying to choose a Disney World hotel for your vacation!

Port Orleans French Quarter

We know the theming is going to be on point no matter where you stay, but you’ve got to weigh out the other things like your budget, the location, how much time you want to stay in the room, and more. They’re all unique in their own way. But, to try and make things a little easier for you, if you’re thinking of staying at Disney’s Port Orleans Resort, we’ve got some bizarre things that we love about the resort that we have to share with you!

Disney’s Port Orleans Resort is a moderate-level hotel and is split up into two sections — Riverside and French Quarter.

Dragon Water Slide

Let’s start with the pool, because who doesn’t love a great pool? (I know we do!) Over at the French Quarter section of the resort, you’ll find the Doubloon Lagoon pool, guarded by “Scales,” which is a HUGE, colorful sea dragon.

Now, this isn’t just any dragon. No, no, no. It doubles as a dragon waterslide! The kiddos (and adults, let’s be honest) can slide right down Scales’ tongue into the pool.

It’s like swimming in a fantasy world, and honestly, how many times can you say you’ve done that?

A Jazzy Lounge

You know we’re living in a world full of Disney sing-alongs, which is why the French Quarter’s live jazz at Scat Cat’s Club Lounge is such a sophisticated surprise.

Scat Cat’s Club

Live performances start at 7:30PM from Fridays through Sundays. You won’t find many experiences in Disney World like it. At Scat Cat’s Lounge, you’ll find specialty cocktails and some non-alcoholic options. For food, you can grab beignets and a unique oyster beignet po’boy.

The lounge

We highly recommend checking it out. Also, remember, you do NOT have to be staying at the resort to visit Scat Cat’s Club!

Rooms Fit for Royalty

If you request to stay in one of the Riverside‘s special Royal Rooms, get ready — you’re in for a magical surprise.

Riverside Royal Room

Imagine you’re brushing your teeth and you notice there’s a familiar golden glint from the sink. That’s when you notice that the faucets are shaped like magic lamps!

We know it’s just a little detail, but be honest. It’s those little details that make your stay feel extra special. It’s almost as if Genie himself popped into your room to add some extra magic just for you.

Food Court Feast

The French Quarter’s Sassagoula Floatworks and Food Factory might be on the smaller side, but boy, it packs a punch. Expect this food court to be popping with a variety of Southern and Creole dishes.

Sassagoula Floatworks

You’ll find Po’ Boys that are dripping with flavor, King Cakes bursting with sweetness, and the occasional pot of Jambalaya (fingers crossed it’s on the menu during your visit!).

Sassagoula Floatworks

Again, despite its size, the themed menu here is pretty rich and diverse, definitely capturing the spirit of New Orleans. We’d recommend stopping by for a bite.

Mickey Beignets

You know how we mentioned beignets earlier, right? In addition to the beignets at the lounge, you can also grab Mickey beignets at Scat Cat’s Club Cafe all day long!

Mickey Beignets

You can choose from a pack of three or six beignets. There’s even the Mickey beignet sundae! But the highlight is the boozy beignets. You have your choice of Baileys Irish Cream, Kahlua, or RumChata are also available here as well as a variety of dipping sauces.

Boozy Beignets

Mickey beignets are one of the BEST Mickey-shaped snacks on the property. These are a MUST if you visit the resort.

Yeeha Bob at Riverside

Now, we can’t talk about Port Orleans Riverside without mentioning Yeeha Bob. Picture this: a wacky, high-energy piano player who gets the whole crowd involved in his antics. At this point, his shows are a legendary experience.

Yeeha Bob

As we said, Yeeha Bob’s performances are loud, fun, and completely engaging, which is definitely a refreshing break from the usual hotel entertainment.

You have to experience Yeeha Bob if you’re at the resort. If nothing else, it’s an unforgettable (if not slightly bizarre) way to end the day.
