We always love mornings that start with our favorite Disney attractions, right?

Rise of the Resistance

Everyone’s got their own strategies on how to maximize their day and get on all their favorite rides, and that got us thinking. We wanted to find out what your tips were for the hardest rope drop in Disney World. Well, we asked and boy, did you deliver!

We reached out to our followers on Facebook to ask: “What’s your #1 tip for rope dropping Disney’s Hollywood Studios?” The results were pretty varied. We had quite a few people leave their opinions in the comments!

What do you think?

Now, let’s dive into the results!

1. Early Bird Gets the Fun

First things first, go ahead and set that alarm clock to “unreasonably early” because the early bird definitely gets the worm at Disney World. Rolling out of bed before the sun rises might seem tough, but trust me, it’s worth it when you’re one of the first people in line for your favorite ride!

One of you summed it up perfectly: “Get up early and get there in time for rope drop.”

Another mentioned: “PRAY!!!! Because if you’re there for rope drop it’s going to be a LONG day!🤞🏾🤞🏾”

2. Map It Out

Knowing the park’s layout is key. Some of you pointed out that there are multiple paths to reach Galaxy’s Edge, so you’ll need to familiarize yourself with the map so you can optimize your route and save precious time.

To that point, one of you mentioned: “There are a couple of ways to get to Galaxy Edge, and one is a little shorter, check the map.”

3. Expect the Unexpected

Picture this: You’ve been dreaming about riding Rise of the Resistance for months, and just as you’re about to board, bam! Technical difficulties strike. It happens. So, make sure you ALWAYS have a Plan B (maybe even a Plan C) up your sleeve for when things don’t go according to your expectations.

One of you mentioned: “Always assume that Rise will go down” and “have a plan b and a plan c. Something will go wrong and if you’re not prepared for it, it can bring you down.”

Alternative Approaches

Embrace the Afternoon:

Not everyone thrives on early mornings. If you’re a night owl, you may want to wait for the initial rush to subside. That way you just might encounter shorter lines and a more relaxed atmosphere later in the day.

One of you mentioned: “BEST rope drop tip… Stay in bed!!! Wait till the crazy early birds get tired and leave then enjoy the chill, calm afternoon and evening.”

Another mentioned: “Skip it, let the rush move through then walk on anything.”

Genie+ and Strategic Planning

Some of you mentioned utilizing Disney’s Genie+ service to lock in a Lightning Lane selection for a ride, like Slinky Dog Dash.

This can free you up to focus on other priorities during rope drop, like securing a spot for Rise of the Resistance or enjoying other popular rides like Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway, Tower of Terror, or Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster.

  1. For me, the last few times I have been post covid. Rope dropping isn’t as effective any more because everyone is doing it now(especially those staying on property). Especially for the big ticket rides. Honestly, as expensive as it is, sleep in about and do Genie+ and Individual lightning lanes. We rope dropped rise in January. We got on the ride after 55 minutes in line. Not bad but the rushing in the morning to get on the skyliner and then rushing in the park for the first ride of the day, not exactly a great way to start the day. Plus the line went to 30 minutes a couple of times later that day. BUT, if you do rope drop, try and leave the park during the middle of the day. Stack a couple of lightning lanes for later. Take a little nap.

Note to Disney. Quit making guest compete against each other so early in the morning. Takes the fun and spontaneity out of what makes WDW so magical.
