There are some Disney World hotels that seem to get all the fame and glory, while other resorts are out there killing it with no recognition. It’s time to stop talking about Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort and Disney’s Riviera Resort (no offense, but they’ve had their moment in the sun) and start talking about one underrated Disney World resort.
From the fanciest Deluxe Resorts to the inexpensive family-friends Value Resorts, there are TONS of Disney World hotel options. Now, let’s dive in and explore one of the most underrated Disney hotels!
We can go on and on and on about the perks of staying in a Deluxe Resort or even a Value Resort, but ultimately, the cost is one of the biggest determining factors. After all, it’s not cheap to stay on property!
The truth is, no matter which Disney World hotel you choose, you are going to have a clean room, a soft bed, and a safe place to lie your head at night. That said, if you have the budget for a Moderate Resort, there is one hotel we recommend that doesn’t get much attention: Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort.

Coronado Springs is a Moderate Resort with 1,917 rooms and suites located in three villages around a 15-acre lake. Nearby, the Gran Destino Tower houses another 545 rooms, though the Gran Destino Tower rooms typically cost a little extra money.
Coronado Springs is known for its American Southwest/northern Mexico theme. The new Gran Destino Tower takes its inspiration from Salvador Dali’s work, giving the hotel a stunning Spanish look. This resort is HUGE (it’s a convention hotel), so be prepared to walk. Here’s why it might be worth a visit.
1. The Price
Coronado Springs is considered a “Moderate” resort, so the prices reflect the mid-price range of the Disney World hotels. On average, a standard view room costs between $198 – $343 per night.
When you take the stunning atmosphere into account (some may argue this resort is just as pretty as some Deluxe Resorts), the price is pretty reasonable!
2. The Atmosphere
That leads us to our next point, which is that Coronado Springs is BEAUTIFUL – and it deserves more attention!
Just look at that view of the resort. The water, the architecture, the nighttime lighting…it’s so good!
If you’re looking for a more grown-up-looking resort (compared to, say, Disney’s Art of Animation Hotel or Disney’s All-Star Movies Resort), consider staying at Coronado Springs.
The resort offers just as much of that stunning landscaping and elegant water features as some Deluxe Resorts.
3. The Pool
The Dig Site is home to the main pool at Coronado Springs resort, and it includes a 272,000+ gallon pool, the Siesta’s pool bar, a volleyball court, the largest outdoor hot tub on Disney property (it accommodates about 22 people!), the Explorer’s Playground, and the Iguana Arcade. There’s a LOT to do here, making this a great choice for many families!
The Dig Site also features a 46-foot-tall Mayan pyramid and a 123-foot-long Jaguar Water Slide. Most nights, the pool is open 8AM to midnight.
If you’re looking for a pool with less activity, you can also check out the three quiet pools; there is one located in each of the regions: Casitas, Ranchos, and Cabanas.
4. The Food
Finally, there are some seriously underrated restaurants at Coronado Springs Resort. Toledo — Tapas, Steak, & Seafood is a stunning rooftop restaurant at the very top of the Gran Destino Tower. The restaurant serves Spanish-inspired entrees and specialty cocktails and offers a unique view of Walt Disney World. This place has some AMAZING food — give it a try on your next visit!
Alternatively, Three Bridges Bar and Grill is located on a platform in the middle of Lago Dorado. This location comes with a beautiful view of the resort and offers a variety of small plates.
Between all the Spanish-inspired restaurants and the relaxing ambiance, dining at Coronado Springs is well worth your time. Compared to some of the busier hotel restaurants like Chef Mikey’s, the restaurants at Coronado Springs offer quality food with a nice atmosphere.

This is my family’s favorite resort, without question. I am more the Grand Floridian type, but they will take Coronado Springs every time.
I looked into staying at Coronado Springs. It is close to Animal Kingdom, Hollywood Studios and not too far from EPCOT. Also close to the Western Way if you are coming from the west. It is very spread out, making some rooms a long walk from the front. You can pay a little more to get a room in the section closest to the front. As a “moderate” resort, you do not have access to Expanded Evening Hours at the Magic Kingdom and EPCOT. You do have the normal early entry hours and access to Genie+ and ILL at 7 a.m. Except for the lack of Expanding Evening Hours, the lower costs make is good “almost deluxe” resort. Definitely better than most of the value resorts.
It’s our favourite resort, we’ve stayed 4 times and prefer it to all the other moderates and deluxe.
Does Coronado have a foodcourt anymore? We stayed several years ago and they did.
Yes – El Mercado de Coronado is still there. The rice bowls for lunch or dinner are great!
The article only talks about Toledo and Three Bridges, but there are other food options; Maya Grill and Rix, both full service; El Mercado, their quick serve; plus Siestas, the pool bar which sells food. Add in three other bars/lounges and two fitness centers, and you can see why some call Coronado a deluxe at moderate prices. I’ve stayed there several times, both in the tower and in the outer areas.
