5 Disney World Ride Rules to Follow — And 1 to Break

Is there anything more fun than getting on a Disney World ride?

Seven Dwarfs Mine Train

The correct answer is no. I mean, how can you beat the theming, immersion, thrills, and so much more? Thinking about the rides, there are some ride “rules” that you’re going to want to keep in mind at all times, and one in particular that you just might want to break!

Let’s dive right in and go over the five ride “rules” you should follow and the one to break!

Rules to Ride By

Beat the Lines: Listen, your time is precious, especially at Disney World. So here’s the deal: try not to hang around in a line for more than 30 minutes. Make use of Genie+, study wait time data, and consider rope dropping so you can conquer the popular rides. Here’s a bonus tip: The lines often get shorter at night, so think about revisiting rides late in the day.

Prep Before the Queue: At Disney World, long lines are bound to happen.
If you do decide to join a long queue, make sure you get a drink beforehand and make a bathroom pitstop because most queues lack restrooms. Plan accordingly!

Always Follow the Safety Regulations: As you know, park regulations exist for a reason. Disney values safety, and you should, too. Remember a couple of things like no selfies on Space Mountain, secure your loose items on TRON Lightcycle / Run, and keep your shoes on at all times just to name a few.

TRON Lockers

Mind Your Attire: Were you thinking of rocking a skirt for your Disney day? You might want to think again. For rides at Animal Kingdom and Magic Kingdom especially, it’s best to ditch the skirt for something much more practical. Comfort is going to be your best friend.

Protect Your Tummy: If you’re feeling peckish but still want to hit up a ride, especially one of the motion sickness-inducing rides like Mission: SPACE, skip the heavy meal and opt for a light snack. Trust us, your stomach will thank you!

The One to Break:

Front Row vs. Back Row: You’re right. Typically the absolute “rule” with coasters is that the back row is king, but we’re here to say that it might be time for you to break this one and try the front row instead. Here’s a couple of examples:

  • Big Thunder Mountain Railroad: While the front row might feel a tad slower, it accentuates the sharpness of the turns and drops, which is a unique experience.
  • Space Mountain: Up front, you’ll experience better airtime and less of a rough ride from the back.
  • Expedition Everest: You’ll be upping the ante in the front. It intensifies the backward section, offers a better uphill view, and makes the drop less intimidating.
  • TRON Lightcycle / Run and Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster: You really cannot beat the front row with these coasters as it’s where you’re going to experience the best launch position.
