I Was a Disney World Cast Member and I’m Letting You in on a Skyliner Secret

In case you didn’t already know, several of the team members here at AE are former Cast Members.

Magic Kingdom at Disney World

The best part? We love to make your Disney experiences even better (and often easier!) by letting you in on some tricks and secrets we learned while working for the Mouse. Today, we’re going to spill all our best tips when it comes to the Skyliner!

Disney World’s gondola system is basically like a ride in itself. Yep, the Skyliner can offer some pretty stunning views of Disney property as well as provide a relaxing alternative to walking or the bus. If you’re hoping to take the Skyliner, here are some of our best tips!

There’s an emergency kit in each gondola in case you get stranded.

The Skyliner will occasionally stop mid-route due to technical difficulties, to assist in boarding, and sometimes even due to weather. Some of these stops are LONG.

In case these stops ever become dangerously long, there are emergency kits that are stocked and ready inside each gondola. Inside, you’ll find instant ice, emergency drinking water, glow sticks, a notepad, a pencil, and waste bags. Disney can even use an emergency contact number to communicate with you while you’re inside the gondola.

Don’t take it if you’re in a hurry.

Remember how we mentioned that it stops pretty frequently? And sometimes for a long period of time? Well, this is why it’s not the best idea to take the Skyliner if you’re in a hurry.

You might be late for those reservations or to catch that nighttime show you were so excited to see. If you have plans and are trying to get somewhere as quickly as possible, we’d consider taking another form of transportation, like the buses.

If you’re staying anywhere other than Art of Animation, Caribbean Beach, Pop Century, or Riviera, it’s not worth taking the Skyliner.

While several other hotels have quick access to the Skyliner, it might not be worth it. Why? Well, because it’s just as fast (if not faster) to WALK to EPCOT or Disney’s Hollywood Studios from the hotel.

Examples include BoardWalk, Yacht and Beach Club, and the Swan and Dolphin.

Don’t let the lack of AC scare you away.

The gondolas aren’t air conditioned, and this knowledge can deter people from riding in the hot months. However, don’t let this scare you away!

Hello up there!

There’s a little window that stays open that allows for great airflow, and while the Skyliner is moving, it can be one of the best places to cool off!

And there you have it! We’ll continue to keep you updated with more Disney news and tips, so make sure to follow along for more so that you never miss a thing.

  1. I really enjoy the skyliner. I stay at the Caribbean Beach Resort which is where the hub station is. If I can get a room in the Jamaica section, it’s less than a 5 min walk to the skyliner station. Note…buses only run to EPCOT and Hollywood Studios from the resorts on the skyliner only when it is not operational.
