Autopia is the only opening day Tomorrowland ride still open in Disneyland, which is quite the feat!
The ride still uses gas to power their vehicles, which emits a pretty powerful smell around the area that not a lot of people are a fan of. Not only that, but it’s also not the best for the environment. Recently, Disney announced that changes were coming to the vehicles, and now there’s been another update on their future!
Earlier this month, it was announced that the ride vehicles would change to electric powered and/or hybrid vehicles instead of gas powered, but now we know when this change will be taking place and some more details on what these new vehicles will look like.
The Los Angeles Times has now been able to confirm that the new ride vehicles will be fully electric. Disneyland spokesperson Jessica Good has confirmed that the new rides are “fully electric — it does not mean hybrid or any other version of a gasoline combustion engine.”
Additionally, Good also confirmed that the current gas engines “will no longer be using the current engines within the next 30 months,” meaning that by Fall 2026, the electric engines will be fully in use. We don’t know about you, but we’re excited for that smell to go away!
At this time, there is no official closing date for Autopia to receive the updates. We’ll be sure to keep you updated on all the latest news, as well as if we hear if this change will make it’s way over to Tomorrowland Speedway in Disney World as well, so stay tuned to AllEars!
