Halloween Horror Nights might not be happening this year in its FULL capacity, but guests at Universal Orlando are in for a terrifying treat! The parks will be hosting a modified experiences that bring back the food, merchandise, and even a few interactive elements from the horror-filled event.
Although we’ve been spending our time exploring the Tribute Store (especially the Beetlejuice room), we’re ready to take a deep dive into all things terrifying! Universal Orlando has brought TWO of the pre-planned Halloween Horror Nights houses that will be open for guests to test in the daytime! (We promise that we’re only screaming with excitement.) And, we took a trip to Universal today so we can bring you all of the chilling details you need to know!
The park officially opened at 9 AM today, but we got there just after 8 AM since we expected Halloween Horror Nights fans to be gathering early. And, we weren’t surprised to find that there was already a line forming outside (the haunts were calling all of our names apparently). However, we were allowed to enter the park around 8:45 AM.
The queues for both of the houses were being loaded at rope drop, so guests were able to head straight to visit the Bride of Frankenstein or the Tooth Fairy.
The Revenge of the Tooth Fairy and the Bride of Frankenstein are both housed in Soundstage 24, which normally holds two houses at a time. Previously, we’ve seen houses like Jordan Peele’s Us and Scary Tales: Deadly Ever After housed there.
There were dots placed throughout the queue to show proper distancing so guests stood apart while they waited to enter the house.
Universal implemented their Virtual Queue measures that they’ve been using around the parks whenever the queues started to get busy.
The attractions showed as opening at 9 AM, along with the rest of the park.
However, when we decided to experiment with the Virtual Lines today at the house, we noticed that we were able to book three at one time before being told that the fourth was unavailable.
Although the Virtual Queue lines were available for guests to join throughout the day…
…they filled up VERY fast with capacity allowed for guests to be distanced. The Virtual Lines were only built for 30 minute waits during the day (unlike the hours-long lines we would see in a regular HHN). Guests were able to check back throughout the day to see what the lines were like.
The safety precaution signs outside of the attractions stated that guests were required to wear face coverings. The regular warnings about strobe effects, fog effects, and enclosed spaces were provided before anybody entered as well.
However, once we were in line for the attractions, the Team members provided hand-sanitizer before entering the houses and asked us to put our phones in our bags.
We were also given a green glow wand so attendants were able to keep track of the parties in the houses. However, they also held red glow wands so guests were able to see them along the way. The Team Members would occasionally stop a group to make sure that there was enough distance between parties.
Throughout the house, the scare actors were placed behind glass partitions so they were distanced from parties as well. They also wore face masks that were incorporated into their costumes. At times, they weren’t even noticeable in the Revenge of the Tooth Fairy. However, it was a bit odd to see the Bride of Frankenstein wearing a mask during our walk-through.
Although we had different experiences in both of these attractions, we’ll give you our full review later of how the daytime houses stack up against previous Halloween Horror Nights houses!
It’s important to note that we were able to snag another Virtual Queue spot later in the day for Revenge of the Tooth Fairy. So, if you can’t get a reservation first thing, don’t panic just yet! However, we do recommend making sure you get there as soon as possible for a better chance of visiting the house.
As we continue to explore the new food trucks, bars, and other experiences that have popped up around Universal Orlando, we’ll give you all the details you need to know about the modified daytime event!
Here’s how Halloween Horror Nights 30 might change next year!
