If you’re an avid AllEars reader, you might be familiar with all the different park expansions that are potentially on the horizon for Disney World.
But, Disneyland is trying to expand its footprint as well — though some bureaucratic red tape has gotten in the way of things. Luckily, Disney has a plan — DisneylandForward, a multi-year project between Disney and the City of Anaheim with hopes to update some of Disney’s development approvals from the ’90s so they can build new lands and attractions. And, we have a bit of an update!
Disney announced a new plan to expand the Disneyland theme park and resort districts back in 2021, and since then we’ve been keeping an eye on any major developments. We heard Disney Parks chair Josh D’Amaro tease a Frozen expansion, and then finally in January 2024, we got a pretty big update.
At the Anaheim City Council workshop, we learned more about the proposed DisneylandForward development agreement between Disney and Anaheim. Disneyland committed to spending $1.9 billion over the next decade under its long-term planning proposal.
This investment would be spent on new lands, attractions, hotels, shopping, and dining and would be located west of Disneyland Drive, on the current Toy Story parking lot. And, the DisneylandForward website has even been updated with a map of what that could look like.
Disney is still in the early stages of developing this project, but projects that feature Coco, Black Panther, Tangled, Frozen, Zootopia, Peter Pan, Tron, and Toy Story have all been proposed.
If these plans are approved, it would mean that Disney would not use any additional land — it would only modify what it already owns. While this may seem like a small update, we’re excited about the possibility of what this means for the future of Disneyland!
