If you subscribe to Disney+, this post is for you.
Hulu isn’t the only subscription streaming service to begin cracking down on sharing accounts and passwords. A while back, Disney sent an email to subscribers notifying them of updated subscriber agreements regarding account sharing. Well, Disney+ is set to begin cracking down on account sharing TOMORROW, March 14th.
This means that if you’re sharing a Disney+ account with someone outside your household, you are violating your subscriber agreement with Disney+. This could result in your subscription being canceled.
The email shared that new terms are being added to govern gift card information for billing timing and “an explanation of prorated charges that apply when you switch into a higher service tier.” They also updated the arbitration agreement for procedures for resolving disputes related to subscriptions and services, and they are now offering “the choice to ‘opt-out’ of resolving disputes through arbitration.”
As you may have noticed, it mentioned “unless otherwise permitted by your Service Tier.” Back in February, Disney mentioned that there would be a paid option for those who wanted to share their accounts with people outside their households. However, Disney has not yet announced when that subscription option might become available.
After Disney acquired the rest of the shares of Hulu, it took full ownership of the streaming service, which will soon be officially merged with the Disney+ streaming service. Right now, this feature is available as a beta test and those who subscribe to both services can watch both within the Disney+ app and on the Disney+ website.
Hulu also recently changed its subscriber agreement, so keep in mind that you are not allowed to share your account with users outside your household for either streaming service.
