If you’ve been reading AllEars for a while, you’ve often heard us talk about rope drop and whether it’s still necessary in Disney World anymore.
Basically, rope drop means you arrive at the Disney World parks right BEFORE they open (usually about a half hour before the official opening time) to be among the first in line when those attractions are up and running. Although you can’t actually get on any rides until the official opening time, it gives you a head start and a chance to ride them with low wait times. But is it useful anymore? Well, here’s what we’ll tell you we’ve noticed, at least at one park.
If there’s one park you’ll definitely want to rope drop, we’ll say it’s Disney’s Hollywood Studios. So why are we telling you this? Well, Hollywood Studios still has pretty low wait times at opening, which you can take advantage of early in the morning. The only ride with a wait time over 30 minutes at rope drop was Slinky Dog Dash on May 7th, 2024, for example.
If you still want to ride Slinky Dog Dash, a good strategy could be purchasing Genie+, arriving for rope drop (or Early Theme Park Entry if you qualify) and knocking out as many rides as you can, then use Genie+ to re-ride a few favorites and Slinky Dog Dash.
