Disney is known for living and growing up in Marceline, Missouri, which he based Main Street, U.S.A. off of, but did you know he actually was born in Chicago, Illinois? His childhood home is still standing today and is in the process of being restored to its 1901 state — and for the first time ever, it is open to the public.

During a festival called Open House Chicago, visitors can go behind the scenes at many historic places around the city for a weekend. In 2023, this includes Walt Disney’s birthplace and childhood home located in Chicago’s Hermosa neighborhood.

The home, located at 2156 N. Tripp Ave., is open on Saturday, October 14th and Sunday, October 15th from 12PM-4PM.

According to The Walt Disney Birthplace website, Elias Disney (Walt’s father) built this home for $800. On December 5th, 1901, Walter Elias Disney was born on the second floor of the home.
