When Bob Iger came back to The Walt Disney Company to retake the role of CEO, it was determined that part of his job would be to find a worthy successor.
Since then, we’ve heard plenty of rumors about who might be up for the job and we’ve even seen experts make predictions, but no official decision has been announced. Bob Iger is set to step down again in 2026, which is still two years away. However, it seems the list of possible candidates for the next CEO may be narrowing down.
According to Bloomberg, Disney is focusing on four divisional heads as candidates to become the next CEO. Those people are “TV chief Dana Walden, ESPN’s Jimmy Pitaro, theme-parks boss Josh D’Amaro, and Alan Bergman, who heads the film business.”
As part of the transition process, it’s possible that Disney will appoint a “no. 2” person like a chief operating officer or president to serve alongside Iger before he steps down. This would give that person time to acclimate to the running of the company.
However, Bloomberg also notes that no decision on a successor is expected to be made this year. As we mentioned above, Iger’s contract runs through 2026, so there’s still plenty of time for Disney to monitor the candidates and narrow down choices further. Sources close to the matter report that Iger is spending time with each of the four candidates to show them how his job works.

We’ll be interested to see if this list changes in the next two years as Disney goes through a period of serious transition. The company is currently trying to recover from financial issues with its streaming business and plan for the future with expansion projects in the Experiences division.
